Anesthesiological care at the University Department of Trauma Surgery is made possible by all common anesthesia procedures. General anesthesia as well as all regional anesthesia procedures can be performed at two scheduled anesthesia and surgery workstations. In addition to anesthesiological care for acute care of accident victims (including polytrauma care), planned anesthesia is performed to enable repeat interventions or material removal after bone healing has occurred.

Postoperative monitoring is ensured in our recovery room. If intensive monitoring and/or therapy is necessary, the transfer of our patients after surgery to our anesthesiologically managed intensive care unit is guaranteed. Individual anesthesia management enables the majority of our patients to undergo surgery on an outpatient basis.

The University Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care performs more than 1500 operations per year in the trauma surgery department of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. A special concern of our colleagues is comprehensive pain therapy for all forms of anesthesia, especially after surgery. More than 800 general and almost 700 regional anesthesiological procedures are performed. In addition to more than 400 spinal and peridural anesthesia procedures, epidural catheters are used for postoperative pain therapy. More than 200 operations are made possible by plexus blockage of the extremities. Here, the insertion of a pain catheter may also be indicated. State-of-the-art procedures under ultrasound control and nerve stimulation help to increase regional anesthesiological success and significantly reduce the risk for the patient.
