UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT FOR ANAESTHESIOLOGY AND INTENSIVE CARE MEDICINE

General, Visceral and Vascular Surgery

The tasks for the anesthesiological work area of general, visceral and vascular surgery are broadly diversified in accordance with the surgical focal points. They include the pre-, intra- and postoperative care of patients of all risk and age groups. All forms of general and regional anesthesia are performed.

The main focus of regional anesthesia is thoracic spinal anesthesia (catheter technique for intraoperative and postoperative pain therapy) and deep and superficial cervical blockade during surgical procedures on the carotid artery in vascular surgery.

For intraoperative monitoring, the usual methods of non-invasive and invasive monitoring (arterial blood pressure measurement, central venous catheters, PiCCO2, pulmonary catheter, TEE) are available. A fiber endoscope is available for difficult or conventionally impossible intubations. In selected cases, autologous blood donation is offered in cooperation with the Institute for Transfusion Medicine (Director: Prof. Dr. med. M. U. Heim).

Special anesthesiology is available in the following areas::

General Visceral Surgery

  • Tumor surgery with all standard procedures including intraoperative chemotherapy
  • Pancreatic surgery
  • Liver surgery including liver transplantation since 1995
  • Thoracic surgery (various systems of one-lung ventilation in the context of esophageal surgery, partial lung resections)
  • Surgery for obesity (gastric banding, sleeve resection, gastric bypass,)
  • Endoscopic surgery (thoracic, abdominal)
  • Surgery of endocrine diseases (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal)

Vascular Surgery
