Pediatric Surgery
Our patient clientele includes children in all developmental stages from infants to adolescent adults.
In prematurity, infancy and toddlerhood, differences in size ratios as well as in the maturation processes of organ functions and thus changes in pharmacodynamic characteristics of the anesthetics to be used must be taken into account.
Our anesthesia workstations are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and are tailored to the needs of our young patients. Pediatric surgery can be performed in the central OR as well as in the University Women's Hospital in order to save premature and newborn babies additional transport travel.
Suitable equipment is a prerequisite. This includes anesthesia equipment for children from 500 - 1000 g body weight (Zeus from Dräger, Aysis from GE), pediatric bronchoscope, sonography equipment with pediatric field hockey kid. In order to be able to guarantee professional expertise in terms of personnel at all times, we offer a neonatological on-call service around the clock, which is staffed by the pediatric anesthesiology team of our clinic.
Pediatric Anesthesia Work Areas::
The neonatology department of the University Hospital is a Level 1 center. This means that the smallest premature babies, some with a birth weight of less than 500 g, are cared for here. We care for these premature babies during surgical interventions that may become necessary. Operations at this age include
- The closure of a persistent ductus arteriosus
- Care of disease processes in the abdomen typical of premature infants.
In the neonatal period, corrections of malformations such as.
- Gastrochisis/Omphalocele
- Esophageal and intestinal atresias
- Diaphragmatic hernias and other anesthesiological care.
In infancy and toddlerhood dominate
- Hernia surgery,
- Correction of maldescensus testis,
- Treatment of haemangiomas and
- Traumatological treatments are the daily business.
But also the assistance in the care of oncologically ill children is on the program. In all areas, special attention is paid to perioperative pain therapy. Preoperative pain-preventing strategies as well as regional anesthesiological procedures and pain perfusors are used. Last but not least, the recovery room area is accessible to parents of our young patients.
Job shadowing is possible after registration and coordination by the clinic secretary.
