Plastic, Aesthetic, Reconstructive, Hand and Burn Surgery
Just like the surgical spectrum of the University Hospital for Plastic, Aesthetic and Hand Surgery, the demands on the anesthesiological specialty in this field are as comprehensive, diverse and complex.

… also require special knowledge and skills in the implementation of various anesthesia procedures. General anesthesia, regional analgesia as a "single shot" technique and/or a wide range of catheter techniques are used. The patients involved are recruited from all age groups from infants to geriatric patients. For major reconstructive procedures such as flap plasty or replantation of extremities, the use of advanced hemodynamic monitoring techniques as well as various catheter techniques are standard. Due to extensive surgical procedures as well as increased anesthetic risk, intensive therapeutic follow-up is often necessary. The postoperative care on the ward as well as the pain treatment is carried out by our acute pain service together with the specialist colleagues.
Technic
The two anesthesia workstations are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. A Zeus (Infinity empowered) of the latest generation with the possibility of working in a closed anesthesia system is available as an anesthesia ventilator in each case.
Advanced monitoring procedures are routinely used as indicated [arterial blood pressure measurement, central venous catheters, transesophageal echocardiography (appropriate qualifications and expertise available), pulmonary artery catheters, PICCO system, BIS monitoring].
Peripheral line anesthesia procedures and vascular punctures for catheter placement are performed under sonographic control.
As a university hospital, it is our concern to constantly refine and improve the existing procedures, processes and techniques and to give young colleagues the opportunity to learn and practice the techniques. For this purpose, we offer job shadowing and further training under supervision after consultation in our secretary's office. In addition, we offer our colleagues the opportunity to obtain a doctorate (Dr. med.) as part of their further training to become a specialist in anesthesiology.
