PhD Fellowship
Four times a year, funding to support doctoral students at Otto von Guericke University (OVGU) can be applied for in the form of a doctoral scholarship.& nbsp;
Applications can be submitted on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 of each year using the application materials current at that time.
Travel Grant
These are available for travel by early-career researchers from the Faculty of Medicine to external institutions, as well as for participation in conferences or meetings to actively present their own research results. An application may be submitted at any time using the current application documents (but at least 2 weeks before the start of the activity).

José Carreras Scholarships for Young Researchers
The German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation awards three scholarships annually to early-career researchers focusing on experimental or clinical research who make an important contribution to research into leukemias and related hematological-oncological diseases. Furthermore, the Foundation, in collaboration with the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO), awards the José Carreras-DGHO doctoral scholarships to up to twenty doctoral candidates in medicine. In collaboration with the Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH), ten doctoral fellowships have been awarded since 2016 in the field of pediatric and adolescent medicine. Grants from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fund
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fund (BIF) awards grants to outstanding young scientists who wish to conduct ambitious, experimental projects in basic biomedical research.
Kind-Philipp Doctoral Scholarships
The doctoral scholarships of the Kind-Philipp Foundation for Pediatric Oncology Research are intended to ”encourage qualified students to pursue challenging topics in the field of pediatric oncology".
Rising Scientists Meet Up 2026
Poster competition for young scientists
With the Rising Scientists Meet Up 2026, a poster competition by young researchers for young researchers will take place on June 24, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the DZNE (Building 64).
This is a competition where early-career researchers from various institutes come together to present their own work, exchange ideas, and network with other early-career researchers.
In each of the categories (human, animal, and alternative model), poster prizes of 100 euros will be awarded.

OVGU Announcements
Graduate Scholarship
At OVGU, doctoral scholarships are awarded annually (as of July 1 and January 1). To ensure sufficient processing time, applications for doctoral funding must be submitted with complete application materials by April 15 or October 15 to the respective faculty deans’ offices: Information on Graduate Funding (Application Procedures).

Medical Doctoral Scholarships – SynAGE
The SynAGE Research Training Group: The Aging Synapse – Molecular, Cellular, and Behavioral Mechanisms of Cognitive Decline (DFG-GRK 2413)
